Chores & Allowance Bot FAQ

Please write to us if you do not see the answer to your question.

  • How do I link all my family’s devices together so we all see the same information?

Install the app on each of your devices, login with same email and password on all your devices and they will be kept in sync.

The app will keep the login credentials, so you will only need to login to the app one time on each device.

  • What devices does Chores & Allowance Bot work on?

Chores & Allowance Bot works on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch with iOS 12+, and Android phones and tablets with Android 7+. It also works in compatible web browsers on Mac, PC, Chromebook, and some Linux devices.

  • How do I login as a parent?  How do I login as a child?

The app doesn’t have different accounts for parents and children. It uses a parental passcode to protect areas of the app that only parents should have access to. Please keep your parental passcode secret and it will prevent your children from making changes that they shouldn’t make. If you need to change your parental passcode, you can do that from the settings tab.

  • Can I see all of my children's chores in one place?

Yes. The chore grid in the Assign Chores view shows all of your children's chores.  To get to the Assign Chores view, from the main screen scroll to the bottom of the list of children and tap the ‘Assign Chores’ button.

  • Is there an easy way to assign the same chore to multiple children?

Yes.  There are two ways to do it:

    1. In the Assign Chores view, to the right of the chore, place a check mark in the column for each child that the chore should be assigned to. Then press the Apply button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

    2. In the Chore Edit view under "Assignees and Schedule" tap "Select Assignees" and check the children you want to assign the chore to.

  • Will the app let me rotate chores between my children?

Yes. You have the option to automatically rotate chores between your children.  In the Chore Edit view under "Assignees and Schedule", select the children you want to do the chore, then select "Rotate between assignees" as the schedule.

You can also select the start date, and the child you want to start the rotation. This makes it possible to rotate multiple chores between your children.

  • Can I pay my child by the chore?

Yes. You can configure a chore as a ”reward" chore and assign an amount.  When reward chores are done, they immediately show up in the payment view and the reward amount is added to your child’s account as soon as you approve the payment.

  • Can I see the history of past spending/rewards/deductions?

Yes.  The Graph view displays the history of spends/rewards/deductions and shows you the progress of a child’s savings. It will display information about the events that occurred on each day if there were any.  The graph displays a blue line that indicates the daily history of the total savings in your child’s account.   The gray line shows the future savings that will accrue in the account if no money is spent.

Tap on the large blue dots to see the descriptions for spending/rewards/punishments.

  • Is Chores & Allowance Bot complicated to use?

  • What if my child already has an allowance and some money saved up?

When you set up your child's allowance you'll be able to enter a starting balance for the money they have already saved.

  • Why do I need to create an account to use Chores & Allowance Bot?

Chores & Allowance Bot stores allowance information and settings on a central server.  This allows everyone in your family to log in to the same account on different devices and see the same information.  Chores & Allowance Bot automatically synchronizes account information and settings on all the devices logged into the same account.

  • Will my account information be kept private?

Yes.  We will never share, sell, lend or give away any information you enter into Chores & Allowance Bot.

Allowances are credited on the day you have chosen to have allowances paid, one second after Midnight, in the time zone you were in when you created your account.

  • Do I need WiFi or a Data Connection to use Chores & Allowance Bot?

Yes.  Allowance information is stored on a server, so your device must be able to connect to the internet to access the information.

  • Why does Chores & Allowance Bot ask me if I want to allow it to receive notifications?

Chores & Allowance Bot uses hidden notifications to automatically update itself when there are changes to allowance settings and information.

It also uses notifications to display the visible reminders and notifications that you configure in the app.

  • Will the app work if I choose not to allow it to receive notifications?

Yes, but it will not automatically update itself in real time when changes occur.  In order to update the app without notifications enabled; close and reopen the app.

  • Can I change the order of chores in my children’s TODO list?

Yes. You can set the order of your children’s chores.

From the main page, tap Assign Chores, then in the grid, tap on your child’s name. Your children’s names are located on the top of the grid. In your child’s chore assign view, hold your finger on a chore assignment for 1 second, it will turn grey, and you can drag it up or down in the list of chores to reorder.

When the chores are displayed in the child's TODO list, they will have the same order as in your child’s chore assign view.

  • I forgot my parental passcode, or one of my child passcodes.  How do I recover them?

You can retrieve your parental passcode, and your child passcodes by tapping “Recover your passcodes” in the Passcode entry view.
